RTL Biathlon 2007 is a robust winter sports simulator that combines precision shooting with exhausting, long-distance cross-country skiing. The 2007 edition, published by RTL Enterprises, features German Olympic representatives: Sven Fischer and Kati Wilhelm.

Mechanics

Biathlon is a difficult sport requiring excellent preparation, both physical and mental. It is not enough to show excellent condition and strength during running stretches, but also great precision and the ability to control the nerves during subsequent shooting rounds. Each box results in extra rounds or penalty minutes, so it's easy to get rid of the hard-won advantage on the route. The authors tried to reproduce the characteristics of this Nordic sport in the best possible way, requiring the player to not only have high concentration but also the ability to adapt their tactics. Skills gained from FPS games are useful in being successful here.

Game modes

We fight for victory on one of nine faithfully reproduced sports tracks. Of course, the above-mentioned leading figures of RTL Biathlon 2007 - Fischer and Wilhelm - are playable, which is a special attraction for true biathlon fans who remember the outstanding achievements of those German biathlonists. However, the main motivating factor for the player is the possibility of leading and developing a player's career (so-called Charakter-management). In this mode, we take part in the year-round cycle of competitions, fighting for the victory in the general classification. However, if we are just beginning our adventure with biathlon, we are not doomed to occupy the last places in the ranking - the game is designed to be accessible to newcomers. This has been achieved mainly through the introduction of an intuitive user interface and uncomplicated controls. The game also has multiplayer modes and a sophisticated system of cameras and replays, ensuring the realism of real competitions.
