A remastered version of the jRPG from the year 2000. SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered features slightly refreshed visual layer, new storylines not present in the original, as well as various gameplay enhancements, including the option to inherit the stats by other characters and a New Game Plus mode.
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is a refreshed version of the jRPG from the year 2000. It is a sequel to the two years younger SaGa Frontier. The game is the result of a collaboration between Square Enix, the company overseeing the brand, and Bullets studio.
In SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered we watch the action from a bird's eye view. During the game, we explore the game world and get to know its inhabitants, we carry out the quests set before us, and we also gather a team and fight opponents.
The battles take place in turn-based mode, and we face both single enemies (whom we fight one on one) and small groups of them (our entire team confronts them). There is also room here for proper battles involving large armies. As we progress, we develop characters, which allows us to face increasingly bigger challenges over time.
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered takes us to the fantasy land of Sandail. The game tells two stories set in different epochs, which intertwine and gradually connect with each other, creating a coherent whole. The protagonist of the first story is Gustave, a royal heir who must face familial conflicts. The second story features Wil, who works at an excavation site and is faced with the necessity of saving the world from disaster.
The game has implemented a History Choice system, which allows us to choose the events we want to participate in, as well as the characters we want to embody.
Saga Frontier 2 Remastered slightly refreshes the graphic design of the original game, while maintaining its characteristic watercolor style. The creators of the remaster also focused on the interface, which has been redesigned.
The plot features new elements, enriched with additional events and characters. The mechanics have been expanded with the inheritance function, thanks to which one character can copy the stats from another. The remaster also brings the opportunity to increase the pace of gameplay and contains a New Game Plus mode.
There are upgraded bosses, as well as diggers, who can be sent on expeditions to obtain valuable and useful items for us.

I’m not sure why Square Enix has decided to become so prolific with the SaGa property. Three games in a single 12-month timespan is the most ambitious release schedule we’ve ever seen for it. But I’m also not complaining. SaGa has always been something of the forgotten child of Square Enix’s JRPG properties. With any luck, that’s changing now, and a whole bunch of people are going to realise just how good Frontier 2 here is for the first time.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered lets the best parts of the original game shine, while sanding out some of the rough edges that can detract from the player experience. The story shines as one of the best ones in the franchise, and the addition of new types of combat keeps things feeling pretty fresh. This is a full featured remaster, and I hope we continue to see the SaGa series get this kind of love and care from Square Enix; it deserves it.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is a solid port of a great JRPG from more than two decades ago. It keeps what was special about the original - the story and the characters - and adds to it with new plot elements. While we weren't in love with the combat mechanics or the exploration puzzles, they don't get in the way of a great story. Just like we don't love everything about our family, we could overlook the game's shortcomings to focus on what made it memorable.
