The second part of the series of FPP action adventure games with RPG elements and sailor's life simulation. In Salt 2: Shores of Gold we find ourselves on a vast procedurally generated archipelago, which we explore by ourselves, choosing the direction of the journey and the activities we undertake.
Salt 2: Shores of Gold is an action adventure game enriched with RPG and sailing simulation elements. The game is the second installment of the series started in 2014 by the game Salt, and was developed by the authors of the original, the independent team Lavaboots Studios.
Salt 2: Shores of Gold takes us on a journey to a picturesque archipelago. In the game world various dangers and countless adventures await us. During the game we get full freedom in terms of where we go and what tasks and activities we take up.
In Salt 2: Shores of Gold we observe the action from a first person perspective (FPP). We start the game on the board of our ship standing somewhere in the middle of the ocean. Game doesn't give us any guidelines and doesn't give hints where we should go. We choose the direction ourselves and set off on a journey through its picturesque procedurally generated world. The archipelago, which we explore on our own, consists of countless islands. Although we travel between them on board the ship, the actual gameplay takes place on solid land.
The islands are full of interesting places. In the settlements and towns we meet characters who are happy to give us various tasks, while in ancient ruins, caves or pirate camps we find both valuable items and numerous dangers. The last ones are mainly enemies, which we eliminate with cold weapons or from a safe distance, using a bow. As the protagonist needs to eat, the latter is also useful for hunting wild animals; of course, nothing stands in the way of obtaining food in other ways, by buying it from merchants or even fishing.
As we progress we develop the character, gaining new levels and unlocking useful skills. Skills waiting to be learned are connected with both fighting and the widely understood art of survival. We' re talking about crafting, thanks to which after obtaining certain resources (and in the case of more advanced items - the appropriate recipes) we can create new equipment such as armor, weapons or potions, as well as various improvements and decorations for our ship. It is also worth looking for valuable items in the visited locations. In this way you can find not only rare equipment, but also books and notes that can deepen our knowledge of the game world or initiate an interesting task.
Just like in the first part of the series, we create the map ourselves by writing on it the information about the places we visited. After finding an interesting location, nothing stands in the way of sharing its coordinates with other players.
Salt 2: Shores of Gold only allows you to play solo.
Salt 2: Shores of Gold has a colourful, cartoon-like graphic design, which reminds us of Sea of Thieves.
