Saltsea Chronicles is a narrative adventure game, in which we lead a ship crew through a flooded fantasy world. The game's artstyle is highly unusual, reminiscent of risographic prints.
Saltsea Chronicles is a narrative adventure game. It was developed by Die Gute Fabrik, known for such games as Sportsfriends, Where is my Heart? and Mutazione.
The game is set in a flooded world, most of the land submerged unnderwater. It tells the story of a ship crew, whose vessel was stolen, while their captain went missing.
The crew boards their own ship to reclaim it, setting out on a journey to learn what happened to their captain.
Saltsea Chronicles is an adventure game heavily emphasizing its story. The player must explore the world, talk to NPCs and make decisions that shape how the plot develops.
The world consists of many islands, to which players can head in any order, anytime they please, taking different crew members onto different expeditions. Our choices affect character relationships, often causing tensions we must de-escalate.
Aside from the main storyline, there are also many optional side quests available. An additional activity is the playable Spoils card game, the people's favorite pastime in this world.
The game is only playable in singleplayer.
Saltsea Chronicles features appealing 2D visuals. The artstyle is highly unusual, based off risographic prints.

Saltsea Chronicles, put more simply, is triumphant. It’s up there (amongst very tough competition) for the best game I played this year. I found its measured and realistic portrait of the collectivist society it portrays extremely hopeful. It pushes the medium forward, as cliche as that may be to say, in its insistence on theorizing the specifics of a social and political philosophy to its conclusion.
