The plot of the addition focuses on the destabilization of forces in the conflict-torn galaxy and the threat from star pirates and supporters of former emperor Ezar. Players can use many new vehicles and weapons, as well as face new factions.

The Lost Archive allows the player to learn more about the past of Lucy Stillman and Subject 16 – the mysterious assassin who, similarly as Desmond Miles, is a descendant of Ezio Auditore da Firenze. The expansion leads the player through a series of environmental riddles based on the Animus action puzzles. Animus is the machine for the virtual projection known from the base game.
