Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE PC

Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE is a special version of Serious Sam 3: BFE, developed by Croteam for virtual reality sets. The title was released on PC.

Plot

Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE is a prequel of the previous entries in the series. The players once again assume the role of the titular Sam, who is tasked with defending Earth from an invasion of beasts and mercenaries led by the evil Mental. Similarly to previous games, the plot in the new entry isn’t very important – it’s just an excuse for a dynamic, crazy gameplay.

Mechanics

In Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE for PC the action is presented from the first-person perspective. During the game the player mostly explores vast levels and fights numerous hordes of enemies. The battles are fought among ancient ruins and in decaying cities of the futuristic Egypt. Among the opponents there are both the series’ iconic enemies (like Headless Kamikaze) and completely new adversaries, including the giant Khnum and the terrifying Scrapjack, equipped with two powerful cannons.

As one could easily guess, the protagonist isn’t helpless – he can use variety of guns, including smaller and larger machine guns, shotguns and rocket launchers. In addition to that, Sam can use melee attacks to eliminate enemies in close distance. Contrary to most modern FPS, this game features no cover system or the possibility to silently eliminate enemies.

Game modes

A singleplayer campaign is the main thrust of this game. However, it is also possible to play this game with up to sixteen other players in an advanced cooperation mode. Among the available modules there is the Survival mode (where players face waves of opponents) and the Beast Hunt (focused on hunting a specific beast). The game also features a competitive multiplayer with modes like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Last Team Standing and My Burden.

Technical aspects

Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE for PC requires virtual reality goggles (thanks to which it is possible for player to look around by moving his or hers head) and dedicated controllers (that are used for aiming and attacking). Because of that, the developers were forced to change movement system. Now it is possible to move fluently or by teleporting from place to place. The game features decent quality graphics and exclusively composed soundtrack.
