Smoke and Sacrifice is a role-playing game with explicit survival elements. It was developed by indie English studio Solar Sail Games and published by Curve Digital.
Plot
Smoke and Sacrifice is set in a frozen wasteland, where one can only survive in a small area warmed by the life-giving Sun Tree. You play as Sachi, a woman, who sacrificed her son to the Tree. However, she quickly finds out about a certain dark secret and decides to discover what happened to her child. It's not easy, though, as the mysterious land is full of dangers.
Mechanics
Smoke and Sacrifice utilizes an isometric view. The exploration of the world is made more difficult by the complex ecosystem, featuring not only hostile, animal-like creatures, but also grotesque, mobile plants, and unfriendly inhabitants of the land. There is also the eponymous smoke, which can deprive the protagonist of her memories and even her life, or change the behavior of the creatures under its influence.
When facing danger, the protagonist can't anything but grab her weapon and fight the opponents in real-time combat. Sachi can also affect the behavior of animals and plants, turning them into her allies. However, it has its downsides, as this way, she limits her access to useful resources, which she could use to craft useful items thanks to an expansive crafting system. It's also worth noting that sometimes Sachi encounters NPCs, who can help her.
Technical aspects
A distinct feature of Smoke and Sacrifice are its high-quality hand-drawn visuals.
