Solium Infernum is a 4X turn-based strategy developed by the studio League of Geeks - authors of the warmly welcomed Armello. It is a remake of the game released in 2009 with the same title, which was developed by indie developer Vic Davis (known as Cryptic Comet).

Plot

Solium Infernum takes us on a journey to the Kingdom of Hell. After the ruler of darkness disappeared without news, the infernal conclave demands that a successor be chosen as soon as possible. So a bloody power struggle has broken out among the mighty there, with the infernal throne at stake. We play the role of one of the lords, who must subdue his rivals before he can take control of all hell.

Game mechanics

In Solium Infernum, we observe the action from a top-down view. Before starting the game, we choose one of eight archdevils, which are differentiated by their powers and available resources, such as strongholds or legions. Further on, we have no choice but to join the political games from hell.

All the duties of a pretender to the infernal throne rest on our shoulders. So we deal with diplomacy, trying to deftly maneuver through the maze of hellish politics (while avoiding conspiracies and intrigues or trying to use them to our own advantage), make more or less lasting alliances and conquer enemy territories and defend ourselves from enemy attacks. As we progress, we gain new abilities through powers and units unlocked over time. At the same time, it is worth remembering that each of our decisions has consequences that are difficult to reverse (or even irreversible).

A unique solution, which distinguishes this title from other representatives of the genre, are simultaneous turns for each of the participants of the game. It makes it so that in the course of the game we have to show not only cleverness, cunning and knowledge of hellish realities, but also the ability to anticipate the movements of opponents to always be a step (or several) ahead of them.

Game modes

Solium Infernum can be played solo or in multiplayer mode. The latter allows simultaneous play over the Internet or asynchronous gameplay.

Technical aspects

Graphics in Solium Infernum is made in a gloomy style. The locations are plunged into darkness, and we are further reminded of the fact that we are in hell by the designs of the units and the omnipresent ash lying under their feet. In addition, the game features more than 150 atmospheric illustrations.
