Sonic Mania is a classic two-dimensional platformer released on PS4, PC, etc., which is a kind of return to the roots of an extremely popular games about the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, started in 1991 on Sega Genesis. Traditionally published by Sega, the game is the result of cooperation between two studios: Headcannon and PagodaWest Games. The development team has also included Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley (also known under the pseudonyms Stealth and Taxman) who has worked on ports of classic Sonic versions and numerous fan games. Sonic Mania was officially announced during the Comic-Con 2016, during the 25th anniversary of the title character's birthday.

Mechanics

After numerous (and mostly not very well-received) experiments aimed at refreshing the series formula, Sonic Mania is a return to the series' classic formula in the literal sense of the word. The described production is a two-dimensional, side-scroll platformer, in which we travel through successive, varied levels, filled with traps, enemies and collectibles. Apart from completely new stages, developed exclusively for Sonic Mania, the game also features remastered levels from the first installments of the series, such as Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehog from 1991.
