Sonic Mania is a classic two-dimensional platformer released on PS4, PC, etc., which is a kind of return to the roots of an extremely popular series of games about the adventures of Sonica hedgehog, initiated in 1991 on Sega Genesis consoles. Traditionally published by Sega, the game is the result of cooperation between two studios: Headcannon and PagodaWest Games. The development team also included Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley (also known under the pseudonyms Stealth and Taxman), with ports of classic Sonica versions and numerous fan games. The game Sonic Mania was officially announced during the Comic-Con 2016, where the 25th anniversary of the title character's birthday was celebrated during a special event.
After numerous (and mostly very critically acclaimed) experiments aimed at refreshing the series formula, Sonic Mania is a return to the classic formula of the cycle in the literal sense of the word. The described production is a two-dimensional, side-scroll platformer, in which, as Sonic himself and his two faithful friends: Tails and Knuckles, we travel through successive, varied levels, filled with a mass of traps, enemies and finds. A curiosity is the fact that, apart from completely new ones, developed especially for the needs of Mania Sonic stages, the game also features remixed levels from the first installments of the series, such as Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehog from 1991.
However, the game did not go without minor modifications of the original mechanics. In addition to movements known from classic movements, such as spin attack or spin dash, w Mania Sonic There is also a new manoeuvre called drop dash, which allows you to roll up the ball directly after the landed jump. In addition, the game does not lack the characteristic for the series of gold rings, providing partial protection against damage and allowing to unlock special bonus stages (introduced for the first time in the game Sonic the Hedgehog 3 from 1994).
Released on PS4, PC, etc., Sonic Mania refers to the classic parts of the series not only in terms of binding, but also in terms of mechanics. Despite the considerable possibilities of modern PCs and eighth generation consoles, the game is characterized by old-school graphic design, stylized on that from the times of the Sega Genesis console. This formula is a tribute to the most faithful fans of the cycle and a peculiar attempt to pay tribute to its classic and highest rated versions.
