SoulWorker for PC is an MMORPG offering good visuals that aesthetically resemble anime, as well as combat mechanics which bring classic slasher titles into mind. SoulWorker is the debut of Lion Games (a Korean studio), and when it comes to the gameplay formula present, it makes references to Rusty Hearts. The game is free to play, and the experience itself focuses on multiplayer cooperation.
The player is taken to Cloudrealm; although it is an abandoned town, hordes of demons have found shelter here. The players assume the roles of the titular Soul Workers – they are teenagers who have stood up to the enemy from hell. Over time, the players discover the causes behind Cloudrealm's collapse, as well as how to reverse the effects of the catastrophe.
SoulWorker for PC is an action game, which focuses mainly on fighting the demons that have resided in Cloudrealm. The player explores different 3D locations, wiping out the monsters in the town's particular districts. The game is played from a third-person view (the player can change the position of the camera). In neutral zones, one meets other players and NPCs, with whom they can talk and trade for the gathered equipment.
Cooperating with other players in order to achieve story objectives and defeat the more powerful enemies plays an important role here. Although SoulWorker focuses mainly on cooperation, the game does not lack competition-related elements.
The game offers four character classes clearly inspired by Japanese animation, including Soulum Sword, Mist Scythe, Gun Jazz, and Howling Guitar. These differ in weapons, as well as emotions they use to recharge those weapons. For instance, Gun Jazz makes use of machine guns, which deal lots of damage over short periods of time. The player is capable of changing the appearance of their character using the outfits collected; those only affect the visuals however, having no influence on the character's stats.
Combat is an important element of most action games; in SoulWorkers for PC, fighting is real-time, and the player faces hordes of demons either on their own, or in cooperation with others. In combat, energy is generated, which is used to reinforce one's weapon temporarily – when the player has accumulated a specified amount of that energy, their character can perform a special attack. Also, two players cooperating with each other can perform a "Coordination" attack, which is a powerful joint ability that can be used when their weapons are recharged. Character cards received for completing assignments are useful when fighting. Those are used the same way the standard skills are; when activated; above all, they can heal the character or boost their attack power temporarily.
SoulWorker for PC utilizes the Havok Vision2Engine+ technology, which guarantees nice-looking and detailed visuals. The game uses 3D character models, cel-shading techniques, and offers a graphic style which brings Japanese animation into mind. Thanks to the presence of cut-scenes and well-voiced dialogues, those fond of anime will not be disappointed.
