SpaceSim: Astrophysical Simulation Software

Early Access

Release Date: December 15, 2025 Early Access

Simulation, Space, Educational, Indie Games, Singleplayer

A space simulator tool that allows us to simulate celestial collisions, accretion disks around black holes, or galaxies being created. SpaceSim doesn't run in real time, but it also doesn't require extensive knowledge and it's friendly towards unexperienced users.

An employee of Charles University in Prague at the Department of Astronomy, Pavel Sevecek, decided to develop a program for astrophysical simulations. The goal of the indie title SpaceSim - Astrophysical Simulation Software is to make advanced phenomena studied in astronomy and physics more understandable to a wider audience.

How does it work?

The tool is used to recreate phenomena described in scientific literature, such as the impact that led to the formation of the Moon, the creation of Saturn's ring system, or the kinetic effects caused by the DART impactor. By examining initial conditions, we test hypothetical scenarios like the collision of two planets made of matter and antimatter.

The program includes many types of objects: planets, stars, asteroids, disks, clouds, or even galaxies. Each object has adjustable parameters that allow changing its geometry, materials, appearance, and behavior. The surface textures of planets and asteroids can be further customized using procedural generation or by uploading our own images. Custom objects are created using the Lua scripting language.
