A free-to-play action game with strategy elements, marking Quantic Dream's debut in the genre (Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human). In Spellcasters Chronicles, we play as mages and participate in online 3 vs. 3 battles, commanding hordes of summoned creatures.
Quantic Dream is a development studio that has focused on creating adventure games with a cinematic flair since its inception. However, the developers from Paris and Montreal have finally decided to try something new. As a result, Spellcasters Chronicles described here was created - a production that blends action and strategy games, distributed in a free-to-play model with microtransactions.
In Spellcasters Chronicles events are viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP).
The core of the game is taking part in multiplayer arena battles, based on 3vs3 rules. During the battles, we take on the role of the titular mages known as Spellcasters, who are diversified based on archetypes reflecting their roles on the battlefield (led by a tank focusing enemy attacks on themselves and a damage dealer concentrating on offensive actions).
We make use of various offensive and defensive spells representing different schools of magic. Among them, the ability to summon creatures and send them to fight enemies stands out. Leading them are Titans, powerful beings whose strategic use can change the outcome of many battles.
The game allows us to move on foot as well as fly. We can take to the air to attack enemies from above, evacuate, or gain a better view of the battlefield.
In addition to fighting the enemy team, we also must capture altars, thereby gaining control over increasingly larger territory. Moreover, the key to success is destroying the Lifestones of our opponents.
A separate mention is deserved for the narrative aspect. For the purpose of this game, the developers created a system that allows the story to be shaped by the actions of the entire community.
Spellcasters Chronicles can only be played in multiplayer mode over the Internet.
