A relaxing game about controlling a boat and cleaning up the coastline as part of our ecological efforts. In Spilled! we must deal with oil spills, deliver trash to the recycling center and put out fires. The game was developed by an independent author from the Netherlands, living on a small boat.
Spilled! is a relaxing game dedicated to ecological themes, in which we deal with cleaning up forests and coasts. This is the debut work of Lente, an independent author from the Netherlands. During the production of her first such large project, she lived on a small boat herself. The creation of this game was made possible partially thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
In Spilled! we watch the events in isometric view. The game was designed in such a way that it could be completed in about an hour.
We take control of a boat in the game. Our task is not only to deal with oil puddles on the surface of the water, but also to clean up plastic floating, extinguish fires, rescue animals or search for lost items.
The adventure leads us through 8 areas varied in terms of size and degree of pollution. Cleaning a given level entirely gives us access to the next one.
As we progress, we collect coins that we can use to upgrade our boat. A larger collector allows us to handle bigger leaks and gather more waste in one go, investing in a more spacious oil tank allows us to accumulate a larger amount of the toxic substance, and upgrading the engine enables travelling at higher speeds.
In a sense, the reward for our effort is also the increasingly clear water in every location. Thanks to cleaning the area, we gradually discover the life unfolding beneath the surface.
