Spin Rhythm XD

Spin Rhythm is a rhythm game paying homage to the defying titles of the genre, such as Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution. It was developed by an independent Australian studio Super Spin Digital.

Mechanics

The basic rules of Spin Rhythm are simple. The player controls a wheel, automatically moving along a timeline filled with colorful "beats". Our task is to keep positioning the wheel to make its colors match the colors of the "beats" we pass by. The wheel also often passes by special fields requiring us to manually turn in a given direction, pressing a button or tapping the screen (depending what platform we play on).

All this needs to be done to the rhythm of the music, and while operating the wheel isn't too problematic during slower songs, it gets much more complicated with faster ones. We can only make a few mistakes (each one drains our health bar and we have to start over if it runs out), so we must stay perceptive and react quickly.

There are five difficulty levels available, ensuring both newcomers and veterans of the genre can enjoy themselves. The game also includes plenty of accessibility features, such as custom color palettes, adjusting the wheel's movement speed and toning down visual effects.

Progressing through the game lets us unlock new skins for the wheel and the interface. The game also features a level editor, allowing players to create custom tracks to the rhythm of their favorite songs.

Game modes

Spin Rhythm supports only singleplayer gameplay. A substitute for multiplayer is the online rankings system, letting us compare our results with those of other players'.

Technical aspects

The visuals of Spin Rhythm are colorful and make use of a neon futuristic artstyle. The game's soundtrack features licensed tracks from such artists as Nitro Fun, Au5, Panda Eyes, Teminite, Tokyo Machine and Tristam.
