Spire Of Sorcery is a strategy game with RPG elements, set in a fantasy world where magicians are persecuted and murdered by the Inquisition. The game was developed by Charlie Oscar, the creator of Gremlins, Inc. and Eador: Genesis.
A long time ago the world was ruled by magicians. They were responsible for its formation and its creatures. They also contributed to the creation of a race of slaves meeting their sophisticated needs. Above all, however, they conducted numerous wars, which eventually led to the disintegration of the world and the emergence of many anomalies on its territory. The area that has suffered the most is called Disorted Lands; no one in their right mind wants to go there. From the ruins of the world, a group of people is formed into the Inquisition. Their goal is to eliminate anyone who carries even the smallest particle of magical power.
In the game players assume the role of an already aging magician, who knows basic and simple spells, but is hungry for more. In secret from everyone, players study the old tombstones which are the best source of magic arcane. One day protagonist's room is searched and he is forced to flee from the Inquisition into Distorted Lands in order to survive. There, by means of a powerful spell, he builds his new home, directly connected to him and his desire is to find an elixir that restores youth.
The game takes place in real time, divided into consecutive days. In Spire Of Sorcery the main emphasis is placed on the management and development of the spire that serves as players' home. Players can use laboratory, herbarium, kennel, and library. Each of them gives unique benefits.
Then, some adventurers hear about the protagonist's actions. They want to become his disciples; it is up to players who they welcome under their roof and in what direction they develop their skills. Young adepts can be trained as warriors to guard the tower, seekers of lost artifacts and ancient books, excellent gardeners and others. However, one should be careful, because some of them are only waiting to betray the protagonist.
The danger is also waiting outside. Members of the Inquisition, monsters attracted by the strange power, and hoodlums to the treasures held in the treasury appear at mage's gates with evil intentions. This happens all the more often the greater his reputation and the more developed the property.
Creators also provide a large dose of exploration. One can send teams of disciples to a designated place on the map (which players observe from above) and then follow their reports. Discovering new places activates a variety of adventures, during which players might have to choose one of the several available options resulting in a positive or negative result.
Spire Of Sorcery delivers 2D visuals maintained in a style referring to illustrations from fantasy books or comic books. Creators placed a free wizard for creating and modifying the appearance of characters on Steam.
