A third-person action adventure game from the creators of Downward. In Star Overdrive we travel the open world using a hoverboard. We can also face platforming challenges and opponents, using a unique keytar to defeat them. The overall gameplay is similar to titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Star Overdrive is an action-adventure game, reminiscent of the warmly received Solar Ash. The game was developed by the independent Italian studio Caracal Games, which has titles such as Downward and OkunoKA in its portfolio.
In Star Overdrive we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP).
The game provides us with an open world divided into various biomes, where we will find both wastelands and ruins, as well as other remnants of an ancient civilization.
We cover large distances, speeding on our hoverboard. It is a variation of a snowboard that doesn't move on wheels, but instead hovers above the ground. The protagonist can not only rush headlong, but also use elements of the environment as jumps, as well as perform daring stunts in the air (and merge them into spectacular combinations).
In many places, however, we must put our foot down on solid ground, and take up arms. In this role, the character uses a keytar, which is a hybrid of a guitar and a keyboard. It can be helpful in beating encountered opponents. On our path, we encounter both standard adversaries and powerful bosses, and during dynamic battles, we must demonstrate agility and reflexes.
As we progress, we develop the powers of our protagonist and unlock new skills. They can allow him to do things like influence gravity or release kinetic energy. Over time we can also improve the hoverboard, increasing its speed and maneuverability, as well as modify its appearance, adapting it to individual preferences.
In Star Overdrive we play as a hero named Bios, who decides to land on the surface of an alien planet called Cebete. The protagonist plans to investigate the source of the SOS signal coming from it. Our hero hopes that he will find clues that could help him in finding his missing beloved - Nous.
The graphic design of Star Overdrive is maintained in a cartoon style, which may evoke associations with games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Game Ratings for Star Overdrive Video Game.
Screen Hype: 8 / 10 by Blake Wilcox
Star Overdrive surprised me in the best way. What started as a space-themed curiosity turned into a fast-paced, emotionally engaging experience that blends satisfying movement, creative combat, and a genuinely good story. Between the hoverboard upgrades, keytar-based combat, and an intriguing skill system, there’s more depth here than I initially expected – and it kept me coming back for more.
Quest Daily: 6.5 / 10 by Daniel Anderson
Star Overdrive proudly wears its influences on its sleeve, for better and worse. With around 10–15 hours of main quests and plenty of lore to uncover, there’s something here worth digging into.
Analog Stick Gaming: 6.5 / 10 by Jeff M Young
While the initial few hours really made me fall in love with Star Overdrive, the longer I spent with it, the more some of its design choices made me fall out of love and start to notice and experience the extreme tedium that is baked into progressing the main story. The hoverboard is essential to the game, which is why the slow moments of it can result in far too much trial and error as you attempt to master it to sail high to your next objective. While its story’s conclusion was certainly worth the journey, the path there was sadly a bumpy one.
