Strategic Command WWII: War in the Pacific is a complex strategy game from a series launched in 2002. The game was developed by Fury Software studio, which oversees the development of the series, while its release was handled by Slitherine, a company specialized in this genre.

Plot

As the title suggests, Strategic Command WWII: War in the Pacific takes us to the times of World War II, or more precisely, the war in the Pacific. The production offers six campaigns, with the largest of them being 1941 Day of Infamy, which begins with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

In addition to this, there are five mini-campaigns, namely 1939 Khalkhin Gol - Nomonhan (where Soviet and Japanese soldiers face each other), 1942-43 Solomons Campaign (allowing us to see the first American offensive aimed at Japan), 1944 The Marianas Campaign (focused on the American operation Forager), 1945 Iwo Jima (enabling us to take over the titular island from the Japanese) and 1945 August Storm (telling the story of the Soviet invasion of Manchuria).

Mechanics

The gameplay in Strategic Command WWII: War in the Pacific takes place in turn-based mode, on detailed strategic and tactical maps, covered with grids of hexagonal fields. The largest of them, prepared for the 1941 Day of Infamy campaign, consists of 36 thousand hexes and covers an area stretching from India and Burma, through Malaya, the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Midway, ending on the west coast of North America.

The game allows us to take control of the forces of seven major powers: the United States, the Soviet Union, Great Britain, Japan, Australia, China and communist China, as well as various auxiliary forces.

During the game, we primarily focus on recruiting various units, conducting military operations, and taking care of the supply lines of our units. Moreover, we need to keep an eye on the economic and technological infrastructure of our army. The struggles take place both on land, in the air and at sea, so during them we must demonstrate tactical sense and the ability to plan subsequent moves well in advance.

Game modes

Strategic Command WWII: War in the Pacific can be played alone or with other players. The game offers both classic multiplayer and PBEM mode. It also includes an editor that allows us to create our own scenarios.

Technical aspects

The graphic design of Strategic Command WWII: War in the Pacific is rather symbolic and consists mainly of maps and tokens symbolizing our troops. Tokens can be changed into three-dimensional models of individual units.
