Subterrain: Mines of Titan is an RPG game with clearly outlined survival elements, which is the second installment of the series launched in 2017. The game was developed by the authors of the original, the independent Pixellore studio, and its release was handled by Freedom Games company.

Plot

Subterrain: Mines of Titan takes us to a dark science fiction universe. After a powerful meteorite hit Titan, one of Saturn's moons, rare mineral resources were discovered on its surface. The TECC Corporation quickly established its colony there, whose residents engaged in the extraction of these resources. One day contact with the Huygens camp is lost, so the company decides to send a rescue mission to the site to investigate and resume mining.

During the game, we take on the role of a member of a rescue mission. Shortly after waking up from cryogenic sleep, we discover that our stay on Saturn's moon will be a real fight for survival. Not only our own life, but also the fate of other people trapped here will depend on our actions.

Mechanics

In Subterrain: Mines of Titan we watch the action from a bird's eye view. Unlike the first part of the series, based on clearly outlined mechanics taken from the roguelike genre, the world in the sequel was designed by hand. Additionally, each of our actions causes the passage of time remaining until the complete annihilation of the Huygens camp. Before the countdown ends, we must find a way to escape from Titan or find out what fate befell the first colonists. It should be kept in mind that we may not necessarily be able to accomplish both of these things at the same time.

Traversing the surface of Titan, the tunnels stretching beneath it, and the buildings erected by the colonists, we carry out various quests, take care of the camp, and face opponents. The protagonist must deal with nightmarish creatures living on Titan.

Battles take place in turn-based mode. We can fight in close quarters using melee weapons, or keep our adversaries at a distance using firearms, explosives and various combat gadgets. Furthermore, we can make use of nanomachines on the battlefield, which provide us with access to powerful abilities. As we progress, we develop our character and also obtain better equipment, which over time allows us to face increasingly greater challenges.

We have to manage water and food resources, control the level of oxygen, and keep an eye on the camp's energy supplies. In addition, it is necessary to assign duties to individual survivors, as well as to collect materials that are used for the crafting system. Thanks to the latter, we produce useful equipment - weapons, armor or things like medicine, which we use to treat injuries sustained on the battlefield.
