We must ensure that the traffic runs smoothly and over time we can automate the process of controlling it. Additionally we must pay attention to our finances.

Andriy Bychkovskyi is an independent developer who became known to players as the creator of the warmly received strategy game titled Farlanders, released in January 2023. Over time, he embarked on subsequent projects, one of which is the Super Loco World described here. It is a strategy game dedicated to the theme of railways, enriched with logical elements and maintained in a cozy convention.

In Super Loco World we watch the events from a bird's eye view.

Planning railway routes

During the game, we take on the role of an aspiring transport tycoon, whose task is to build a smoothly functioning railway network from scratch. The system implemented in the game is intuitive, so we lay the tracks by marking the routes, and the game assists us in creating intersections or bridges.

Traffic control and automation

Placing tracks connecting successive villages and releasing trains on them is not enough to dominate local transport. The game requires us to control the movement of trains on the routes. We must pay attention primarily to ensure that "bottlenecks" are not created at critical points.

Over time, we gain the ability to automate this process by setting up signposts (which will let train drivers transporting specific goods know where to go), stop signs, as well as traffic lights regulating traffic on the busiest sections.

A special mention should be made of the depot, where we can both create new trains and expand the already owned ones with new wagons or shorten them if necessary. A visit to the depot is also an opportunity to refuel. Having to use fuel is another factor to consider when designing railway lines.

Gradual development

As progress continues, not only does our network of tracks develop, but also the villages intersected by our lines. As they grow, their demands also increases. Combined with our gradually growing train fleet, it means that over time the list of things to remember gets longer. The key to success is control over income and expenses, and maintaining them at a level that makes our business profitable.
