A walking sim styled action adventure game with a TPP camera. Tales from the Mabinogion features a world inspired by the Welsh mythology. As the king Pryderi we travel through the beautiful land in order to free it from the mysterious fog.
Tales from the Mabinogion is the project of Stevan Anastasoff, who was involved in the past in titles such as Assassin's Creed: Origins, Warhammer Online and For Honor. This time, the Canadian tackled Celtic folklore, drawing inspiration from the Mabinogion, a collection of medieval Welsh sagas. The game belongs to the walking sim genre, which is centered around exploration.
Tales from the Mabinogion is set in the world of Welsh stories dating back to the 12th century. After a sorcerer covers the ancient land of Dyfed with fog, its warrior ruler Pryderi sets out on a journey to save his kingdom. Dealing with beasts from the underworld of Annwn, we traverse vast forests, mountains, and coasts of mythical Wales, uncovering its secrets. At the same time, we are fleeing from a mysterious fog, the origin of which we want to discover.
Tales from the Mabinogion focuses primarily on exploration. Traveling through a world full of fantastic creatures, we learn its stories, discover ancient secrets and immerse ourselves in Welsh folklore. The immersion is enhanced by the fact that the main language of the game is Welsh.
As we follow the trail of mythical beasts, there are confrontations with dangerous creatures, and the deadly nature of the mysterious fog forces us to stay on the move.
Shader-based specific graphics of Tales from the Mabinogion bring to mind the oil paintings of Van Gogh, Hanson and Monet. The soundtrack was composed by folk musician Oliver Wilson-Dickson.
