game release date for PS1:
Tekken 3 is the next installment of the iconic series of three-dimensional brawls created by Japanese company Namco (now known as Namco Bandai). The production was released in 1998 on the PS1 platform and quite significantly developed the gameplay mechanisms of its predecessor, also making significant changes in the list of playable characters.
The action of the third Tekken on PS1 takes place several years after the tournament from the previous part of the cycle. The Tekken Force, a paramilitary organization created by Heihachi Mishima, accidentally awakens the ancient god of combat, Ogre. The tenth troop that has broken his sleep and sets off into the world, hunting for the great masters of martial arts.
One of his victims is Jun Kazama, who raised alone, conceived with Kazuya Mishima during the second tournament, son named Jin. A vengeful boy goes to his grandfather Heihachi to ask him for teachings. The old Mishima decides to use the young man to lure Ogre, whom he would like to grasp and use for his own purposes. After several years of training, Mishima announces another Iron Fist Tournament, hoping that the god of combat will not miss such an opportunity and will come in person, thus letting himself be drawn into the trap.
Tekken 3 on PS1 significantly enhances the combat mechanics of previous installments of the cycle. Although the control is again based on the same foundations, according to which individual buttons are responsible for different warriors' limbs, the title makes much more use of the three-dimensionality of the environment. All characters gained the ability to dodge sideways and significantly reduced the height of jumps, adding depth to the duels and forcing them to use different tactics during the clashes. The use of so-called "juggles", i.e. tossing an opponent and attacking him in the air, where he remains defenceless, has also become more important.
Shifting the action of the game for several years forward served as a pretext for replacing a large part of the cast. W Textiles 3 only eight players from the previous game returned, the rest are debutants (although many of them have very similar attacks, or even appearance, to absent warriors). Once again you can play as Nina Williams, Mishima Heihachi's senior family, Yoshimitsu's cybernetic ninja or Lei Wulong's policeman. The debutants included capoeira master Eddy Gordo, Kazuya's son and Jun named Jin and Chinese pupil Ling Xiaoyu. In total, more than twenty characters have been made available to players.
Tekken 3 on PS1 includes species-specific combat modes such as Arcade, Survival, Time Attack and Versus. In addition, the production offers more original variants of the game. In Tekken Force Mode game imitates the classic scrolled beatings, in which you have to break through a host of opponents, heading to the right side of the board. In the Tekken Ball Mode the fun turns into a very unusual variation of beach volleyball.
Due to technical limitations, the version Tekken 3 on PS1 presents itself less visually than its automatic counterpart. Three-dimensional backgrounds had to give way to two-dimensional panoramic images, the number of polygons of which the characters were composed was reduced and the whole works at a lower resolution. Despite these cuts, the game remains one of the best looking productions available on the platform on which it was released.
