A Polish detective game that defies clear genre classification. It was created by a Polish developer & journalist Marcin Borkowski, who also made The USB Stick Found in the Grass. We can take part in a series of investigations and our main job is to analyze real files.
Marcin Borkowski is a Polish gaming journalist (known under the pseudonym "Borek"), but also an independent developer. In 2018, he started the project The USB Stick Found in the Grass, which eventually made it to digital distribution. His next work is The Case of Andrew D., a detective game maintained in a similar form, which eludes strict genre classification.
The Case of Andrew D. allows us to take on the role of a forensic IT specialist, who assists detectives working in the field by analyzing the files they send. Compared to The USB Stick Found in the Grass, this game stands out due to greater interactivity. The game simulates connecting to the detective company's server and downloading files from it, as well as sending back data to it, which pushes the story forward and triggers the next stages of the investigation.
However, these files are real. Our job involves analyzing them using any programs and tools we want. The goal is to extract useful information from them. Sometimes accessing data requires entering passwords (the alternative is breaking security, but passwords are chosen in such a way that deduction proves to be much more effective). Pushing the story forward may also involve the need to search for information on the Internet.
In this way, step by step, we move forward with subsequent investigations. We have to catch a fraudster, find the whereabouts of a boy who ran away from home, and also solve the titular case of Andrew D.
