The fourth installment in the series of economic strategies with RPG elements, serving as its reboot. The Guild: Europa 1410 takes us to the Medieval cities, allowing us to gradually develop the social ranking of our family. We can achieve our goals through hard work, politics or shady dealings.
The Guild is a series that probably doesn't need to be introduced to any fan of economic strategy games. The job of preparing its fourth installment was entrusted by THQ Nordic, the company overseeing the brand, to the Czech team Ashborne Games, which has the project Last Train Home in its portfolio. The team from Brno decided that instead of a sequel, they would prepare a reboot, which led to the birth of The Guild: Europa 1410 described here.
In The Guild: Europa 1410 we watch the action from a bird's eye view.
Similar to previous games under this banner, we are dealing with a hybrid of an economic strategy and an RPG game, enriched with elements of a life simulation. During the game we find ourselves in one of the real medieval cities, and our task is to lead our family to the top of the social ladder.
The Guild: Europa 1410 is not a classic city builder. We are concerned here not so much with creating a city, but with building a dynasty and competing with other families. Individual families represent specific archetypes, which significantly influences their behavior. Our actions and decisions also influence the development of the metropolis, both indirectly and directly. The game allows us, for example, to construct buildings (within the city walls or beyond them).
Climbing the social ladder is not easy, as initially we have limited resources and a modest home. Depending on the profession we choose, it can be a workshop (if we follow the path of a craftsman) or a hideout (if we decide to pursue a career as a thief). As we progress, we develop our business wings, learn new skills and gradually develop our "command center". Thanks to this, over time our wallets become heavier.
We can also achieve social advancement through hard work, by engaging in political intrigue, or by participating in shady business dealings. Both an official and a black market operate, which we can use to enrich ourselves (we just need to watch out for guards and checkpoints at the city gates).
Although there is no shortage of competition here, the game allows us to deal with it in various ways - both official and unofficial. We can take people standing in our way to court, trying to discredit them in the eyes of others. However, we must be vigilant, because we can also fall victim to such actions.
The Guild: Europa 1410 can be played alone or in multiplayer mode over the Internet for up to 12 people. We can compete or cooperate with other players.
The Guild: Europa 1410 operates on Unreal Engine 5 technology.
