The Huntsman: Winterís Curse presents a completely new story which takes place in parallel to the events shown in the movie. When the armies of Freya the evil queen marches through the cold realm, in the shadow of the war the protagonist of the game, Elisabeth, lives a quiet life in her family farm Vardhelm. Once upon a time her brothers disappear in mysterious circumstances and the protagonist decides to embark on a quest to find them. During this adventure she will encounter many familiar faces and some previously unknown dangers. Elisabeth will even discover a mystery which she had in herself since years.
The Huntsman: Winterís Curse is an unordinary RPG game which in some aspects is similar to the Child of Light. The main focus of the developers was on the story of the game which is told in a way similar to visual novels. A classic, turn-based combat system is supplemented with mechanics typical for online card games. During the game player focuses mostly on exploration and conversations with encountered NPCs who gradually reveal new fragments of the story and sometimes join forces with Elisabeth. The game is also filled with turn-based battles against enemies during which the player uses cards obtained during the game to perform attacks. The whole is supplemented with a typical for RPG games, but in this case slightly simplified, character development system which considers few basic character parameters and a simple ability tree.
The Huntsman: Winterís Curse for PC and PS4 has graphics style that is unordinary for a RPG game. It is similar to visual novel games. During the game one watches simple animations, hand drawn backgrounds and characters that are similar to early movies created by Walt Disney company.
