The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth is a digital board game, whose action is set in the fantast world of Middle-earth, known from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien (author of The Hobbit or There and Back Again and The Lord of the Rings series, as well as films based on them, directed by Peter Jackson and many games - including Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Middle-earth: Shadow of War). Fantasy Flight Games (known from similar digital board games such as BattleLore: Command) is responsible for the creation of this production.
The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth takes place in the fantasy universe created by the father of the genre, J.R.R. Tolkien. The story presented in the game takes place in the times described in the novel cycle Lord of the Rings - when the armies of the sinister Sauron gather in the distant Mordor. We play as heroes known from books - mainly adventurers and travellers such as Aragorn and Bilbo.
The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth starts with the choice of a character - each character has their own story and skills that determine what we can do in the game. Each character has a specific role in which he feels best and helps the team the most - cooperation is crucial in the game.
The actual gameplay is about moving through the hexagon map, exploring, fighting enemies, acquiring great treasures and gradually discovering various secrets and stories from the world created by Tolkien - including those related to the threat of the ominous Dark Lord.
Importantly, as the game progresses, our character progresses, gaining new skills and improving existing ones.
The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth can be played solo or with others in a five-player cooperation mode.
The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth is a digital board game and its graphics are mainly user interface, two-dimensional illustrations and three-dimensional models representing characters and parts of the game world. The pleasant, subdued artistic style of the game reflects the characteristic atmosphere of the universe known from The Lord of the Rings, and many models of characters and opponents resemble what we remember from the film trilogy.
