Although I had a good time with it, I doubt new The Lord of the Rings: War in the North will win over players experiencing War in the North for the first time. It’s great that the game has returned to stores and can be easily played on modern hardware, but lack of certain features like 21:9 ultrawide support simply aren’t acceptable for a modern release.

Sure it's more than a bit janky, the combat is a touch simplistic and the visuals, despite Aspyr's generous sprinkling of 4K resolution and 60 frames per second goodness upon them, still feel rather dated. Yet despite all of that, Lord of the Rings: War in the North feels oddly refreshing with its straightforward sensibilities and design resulting in an action RPG that remains good, solid fun - especially with friends and represents good value at its budget, sub $20 price point. Overall, it's just nice to have a decent Lord of the Rings game doing the rounds again, don't you think?

  • Crossplay and Save Importing: Users expressed disappointment that crossplay is not available between platforms and that there are limitations regarding save importing from the original game.
  • Expanded Content: There are calls for additional content, such as new story elements or significant gameplay changes, which some players feel are lacking in this edition.

Summary

  • In summary, while The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Legacy Edition has been well-received for its nostalgic value and co-op gameplay, it is also criticized for its multiplayer issues, bugs, and lack of significant visual improvements.
