The Room VR: A Dark Matter is the fifth instalment of the award-winning series launched in 2012 by Fireproof Games. The game does not differ significantly from the assumptions of its predecessors. The main goal of the game is to look for objects hidden in the game world, somehow connected with the puzzle which is the core of the Unlike the previous parts, A Dark Matter was created for virtual reality goggles, which are necessary to run the game. This is also the first project in the studio to be released on PlayStation.

Plot

The game is set in 1908, at the British Institute of Archaeology. This time, as a London policeman, we have to solve the mystery of the disappearance of a well-known Egyptologist. We learn the story through descriptions of the objects we find, sometimes available immediately after they are collected and sometimes when we interact with them.

Mechanics

A Dark Matter is a typical representative of the logical-adventure genre "hidden object", so the rules governing the game are not overly complicated. As a policeman, we can move around the Institute's facilities, and in each of them we have to find objects related to the missing Egyptologist. Thanks to the functions provided by VR goggles, we can view them from any perspective, and in a special menu we get their more detailed descriptions. Sometimes, in order to get to the next clue, we have to combine several items - e.g. by matching the case with the right key we get the item hidden in it. While exploring the locations, maintained mainly in the museum style, we can support ourselves with additional gadgets, such as ultraviolet trace detection glass. The environment is very interactive and allows you to play with moving objects from one place to another or putting together different puzzles.

Technical aspects

The whole gameplay mechanics has been designed to make the most of virtual reality goggles. In addition to the option to lift and rotate objects, the creators have also created a 3D Audio system that enhances the impression that we are actually at the Institute.
