Total Club Manager 2004 is a new edition of the football manager of Electronic Arts concern, who is to compete with such a valued and recognized on the market cycle as Championship Manager from Sports Interactive. The fact that Championship Manager has a very strong and well-established position on the market is a very ambitious task and that is why the authors of TCM made every effort to catch up with, and even surpass, their competitor. About 50 biggest leagues from all over the world have been implemented into the game, including: the first and second French leagues, the first and second German leagues (Bundesliga), the English Premiership, as well as over 30 thousand FIFA federation players and another 25 thousand new, young athletes, who will make their debut in the ranks of professional football teams in the future. A player can lead any of the national teams in the above leagues, as well as take care of international teams (which was not possible in the 2003 edition). The game also includes all the most important international tournaments, including the European and world championships (including qualifications).

Numerous improvements have been made to practically all the things that affect the realistic recreation of work and the duties of a manager and coach of a professional football club. One of the most important ones is:

  • training system - greater freedom in determining the training program of the team and its individual players, organization of training camps before important tournaments, ten-stage level of players' experience and a three-step increase in player's skills at each level (i.e. 33%, 66% and 100%),
  • system of attributes of players - now each player is described by a greater number of characteristics, including dribbling ability and the ability to defend the goal. This list is common to every player, goalkeeper, defender or striker,
  • player transfer system - more realistic reconstructions of player purchases and sales, contract negotiations, hiring financial specialists, etc,
  • statistical system - a whole range of statistics describing the progress of individual players, the whole team and the club in general (reports after each day of the tournament, etc.). Each manager's life is also entered by a virtual newspaper with the latest news about events in the world, the situation in individual clubs, etc. The newspaper is also a part of the manager's life.
  • system of acquiring new talents - a full league and national youth teams have been added, the player receives full reports on the course of the junior tournament and on this basis can attract the best young players to their club.
  • the possibility of any expansion of the club, which means the construction of new buildings, training halls, and even restaurants and tourist agencies (all shown in 3D graphics). There is also no shortage of tools for creating your own stadium, including technical designs, materials, colours, location of advertising banners and many others.

In addition, the artificial intelligence procedures responsible both for the activities of the club's employees dealing with e.g. the transfer market, as well as for the course and results of matches have been improved. During the games we also receive more information about each of our charges, so that we can react dynamically to the events taking place on the pitch. The user interface has been greatly improved, new keyboard shortcuts and navigation keys have been added. The advantages of this production include an improved editor allowing to modify various aspects of the game and a game-quiz consisting of more than a thousand questions related to football.
