A complex remake of the jRPG titled The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, offering a TPP camera this time around. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter introduces manga 3D graphics, two combat systems (turn-based and real time), dubbed conversations and the lack of loading screens.
The roots of the jRPG series titled The Legend of Heroes date back to 1989, when the first production representing it, Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes, had its premiere. Over time, various sub-series such as Trails in the Sky, which started in 2004, grew under this banner. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter described here is a comprehensive remake of the first installment of one of the sub series. It was created by the Japanese studio Nihon Falcom.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter stands out against the original game The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky primarily due to its thoroughly refreshed graphics. The game's action takes place in a three-dimensional environment, and its graphic design is maintained in a manga style. In addition, the camera was moved from above the character's head to behind their back (TPP), and the locations were stripped of "seams" and loading screens. In addition to this, the dialogues in the game were dubbed.
However, that's not all, as the developers also focused on the combat system. Just like the original, the remake features turn-based skirmishes with opponents, but it also implements an alternative solution in the form of dynamic duels played in real time.
In Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter we find ourselves in the fantasy kingdom of Liberl. 10 years ago, it fell victim to an attack by the Erebonian Empire, which was heroically repelled by the forces of Cassius Wright. After the war ended, the commander established the Bracer Guild, bringing together adventure seekers. The game allows us to play the role of Cassius Wright's daughter - a teenager named Estelle. She embarks on a journey full of dangers in the company of her half-brother Joshua, trying to follow in her father's footsteps. In this way, the adventure begins, during which Estelle and Joshua face numerous threats, and also discover the world of court intrigues and conspiracies.
During the game, we explore Liberl and get to know its inhabitants, complete quests, and also fight enemies. The key to success on the battlefield is making use of the strengths of individual characters, who use melee weapons and ranged weapons, as well as various powers. As we progress, we develop our protagonists.

GamingTrend: 95 / 100
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, despite being a remake of a 21 year old game, feels like a breath of fresh air. It masterfully combines action and turn-based combat using some in-depth character customization and weaves an intricate tale of love, empathy, political strife, and redemption. It’s a game that is almost always firing on all cylinders, keeping you engaged on this road and those beyond.

If you’ve been hearing about Trails for years from the sickos and wanting a cleaner way to give it a shot, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for. And if you’ve been a Trailshead for a long time, you’ve obviously already decided to play this, but it’s a worthwhile excuse to go back to the beginning.
So Many Games: 4.5 / 5 by Matt Murray
Rarely do I get so invested in an ongoing, long-running story and lore-based series like this, but the mix of interpersonal melodrama and larger-scale politics was handled immaculately here, to the point where I’ve had to fight myself from looking up what happens to certain characters on fan wikis in the hopes that I won’t be waiting too long until a hypothetical 2nd Chapter. Pair that with one of the most interesting, fluid, and fast-paced battle systems I’ve experienced in the genre, one which was constantly introducing new wrinkles and tools to play with, and you can consider me a full-on Trails fan now
