Trapped Dead: Lockdown Description
Trapped Dead: Lockdown is a top-down RPG continuation to the 2010’s tactical RTS - Trapped Dead. Among other platforms, the game has been released on PC, PS4 and XONE and is a first standalone production by the independent Bigmoon Interactive Studios from Portugal. The studio has taken part in the production processes of such games as Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, The Dark Eye: Demonicon, MotoGP 13, and WRC 3.
Plot
In the game, players get to travel to a small American town overrun by hordes of living dead. A player assumes the role of one of the five available characters featuring a commando, a butcher, a killer, a sheriff, and an exorcist. In order to complete the mission, one has to get to the town before the army locks it down, and literarily cleave their way through all the zombies wandering on the streets. The storyline varies slightly depending on the protagonist a player chooses to control.
Mechanics
Unlike its predecessor that focuses on the strategic aspects of the game, Trapped Dead: Lockdown puts a strong emphasis on the hack’n’slash elements and builds mainly on the action enriched with some RPG mechanics. Each character features unique flaws, assets, and abilities. For example, while the killer specializes in firearms, the butcher prefers melee weapons, and the exorcist utilizes his supernatural powers. Each protagonist features also a unique development tree, which allows players to unlock their character’s both offensive and defensive skills.
Character class does not limit one’s ability to utilize any of the available weapons, among which one can find powerful two-handed pieces, as well as a bit weaker one-handed weapons that a player can dual-wield – one gun in each hand. The rich weaponry arsenal also features bats, axes, knives, revolvers, shotguns, tasers, bows, grenades, and magic scrolls. A player should choose a weapon in accordance with the type of encountered enemies, among which there are also bosses, who execute rather different combat techniques and strategies.
Game modes
Like the original game, Trapped Dead: Lockdown allows players to play both single and multiplayer modes - one can face the zombie hordes on his own, or join up to 3 other players in a cross-platform cooperative mode. What is worth noticing, the game offers a cross-platform multiplayer, thus the owners of different platforms can simultaneously play the same cooperative missions.
Technical aspects
The game developed by Bigmoon Studios features rather average visuals which fall behind other games sharing the same genre, such as Victor Vran and The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing series. Nonetheless, the developers implemented solid voice acting accompanied by accurate subtitles.
