An action RPG offered in a free-to-play model with microtransactions. In Tribe Nine we end up in a sci-fi world, participating in slasher-like dynamic duels on special arenas. The game also allows us to explore a futuristic city and it's done in a style inspired by classic jRPGs from the eras of 8 and 16 bits.
Tribe Nine is an action RPG, distributed in a free-to-play model with microtransactions. The development of this game was handled by Akatsuki Games studio, which has in its portfolio a project titled Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator.
Tribe Nine transports us to a science fiction universe. In the metropolis of Neo Tokyo, the masked Zero rules with an iron fist, and all problems are resolved through brutal duels as part of the so-called Extreme Games.
During the game, we embody young rebels belonging to the resistance movement, trying to regain freedom for both themselves and other residents of Neo Tokyo.
In Tribe Nine, the gameplay is based on exploration and engaging in dynamic duels in arenas.
The exploration of the game world is presented like in jRPGs from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. We watch our characters from a bird's eye view, getting to know the city's inhabitants and having conversations with them, as well as carrying out quests involving acquiring items, discovering treasures, or solving puzzles. The icing on the cake are the mini-games.
The second important element of the gameplay are duels in arenas, during which we observe the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). The clashes are dynamic and we can take control of a character accompanied by two others.
Individual members of the team perform specific functions on the battlefield, being able to attack, draw the attention of enemies, or heal allies. The key to success is linking attacks into combinations, being in constant motion, avoiding enemy blows, and executing accurate counters. The game also offers combined attacks, carried out simultaneously by the entire team.
Individual heroes and heroines possess a unique set of traits and skills. It translates into their fighting styles. As we progress, we develop characters and it's also possible to modify their professions, for example by creating healers who also specialize in offensive actions.
The graphic design of Tribe Nine combines two-dimensional and three-dimensional elements. 2D character sprites were created and we see them during exploration. 3D view includes the environment and models of heroes, heroines and opponents, visible on the battlefields. The whole was maintained in a manga style.
