The main pros of the game

  • Gameplay Mechanics: Many users appreciate the fast-paced gameplay, including the skiing and jetpacking mechanics, which are reminiscent of the classic Tribes experience. The fluid movement and projectile-based combat are highlighted as enjoyable aspects.
  • Nostalgia Factor: Longtime fans of the Tribes series find some satisfaction in the nostalgia and feel of the game, comparing it positively to earlier titles like Tribes 2 and Tribes: Ascend.
  • Fun with Friends: Some players enjoy the game in casual settings, especially when playing with friends, noting that it can be rewarding and fun despite its flaws.

The main cons of the game

  • Abandonment by Developers: A significant number of reviews express frustration over the apparent abandonment of the game by its developers shortly after launch, with no updates or support for bugs and issues.
  • Low Player Count: The game suffers from a very low player base, with many matches populated primarily by bots, making it difficult to find engaging games.
  • Lack of Content: Users criticize the limited number of maps, absence of vehicles, and overall lack of depth compared to previous entries in the series. Many feel that the game is a stripped-down version of what made earlier Tribes games great.
  • Monetization Issues: The monetization strategy, including overpriced cosmetic items and subscription models, has drawn ire from players who feel exploited.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Community Support: Players express a desire for community-created content, such as mods, maps, and scripts, which were prevalent in earlier Tribes games. The lack of dedicated servers and server browsers is also noted as a significant drawback.
  • Expanded Gameplay Elements: Many users miss features like vehicles, larger maps, and more diverse game modes. The absence of these elements has led to a perception that the game lacks the depth and variety expected from a Tribes title.
  • Improved Anti-Cheat Measures: Several reviews mention issues with cheating and hacking, indicating a need for better anti-cheat systems to ensure fair play.
  • Regular Updates and Communication: There is a strong demand for ongoing support, updates, and communication from the developers, with many players feeling neglected and frustrated by the lack of engagement from the studio.

Conclusion

  • In conclusion, while TRIBES 3: Rivals has some enjoyable mechanics and nostalgia for long-time fans, the overwhelming sentiment is one of disappointment due to the lack of support, low player count, and missing features that made previous titles in the franchise beloved.
