The start of the first of many multi-day tests of a new game from the Tribes series is behind us (vide: Twitch). In addition to numerous streams, players can also see screenshots and official gameplay from Tribes 3: Rivals. The footage released by IGN can be found below. Keep in mind that the project is currently in alpha stage.

Rivals will be the first installment of the series since Tribes: Ascend, which was released in 2012 and gained player recognition. This is significant because a big part of studio Prophecy Games are the creators of that game, which they worked on while they were still members of the studio operating under Hi-Rez Games.

On the one hand, this may give hope for a good game, but on the other - it is not entirely good news for all fans. Tribes: Ascend has had a rather tumultuous history, and the last update of the game was released after only four years after its release. Some fans - not only of Tribes, but also, among others, Smite - also have concerns about Erez Goren's influence. The former CEO of Hi-Rez, and now head of Prophecy Games, has made himself known to gamers from less than good side (via Reddit).

Tribes 3: Rivals - additional information

Of course, it is far too early to make any judgments about the alpha version of the project. Nevertheless, thanks to information from the official channels of the developers and an article by IGN, we also have a bit of concrete information:

  1. standard edition of Tribes 3: Rivals will cost $19.95, but more expensive editions with bonus cosmetic items will also be available;
  2. it has been confirmed that all equipment affecting gameplay ("non-cosmetic") will be "readily available" to all players. Only decorative items will be available for purchase with money;
  3. in keeping with the series' tradition, the game will allow for team-based clashes involving up to 64 players, but as part of the tests, the only play option is 5-on-5 clashes in CTF mode.

Below we have also posted official system requirements for the playtests of Tribes 3: Rivals (via Steam), although keep in mind that the developers have provided slightly different configurations on the game's channel on Discord. Anyway, the team even considered reducing the requirements after internal testing, and perhaps this will happen before the release of the new Tribes next year.

It is also worth mentioning that since July, continues early access of another game by Prophecy Games - Starsiege: Deadzone. For now, the title has not captivated the crowds (via Steam).
