Ultima X: Odyssey is an MMOcRPG game, according to its creators, Origin, which is not so much a successor to the already legacy Ultima Online, but a title with a gameplay aimed at those elements that have been neglected in Ultima Online. The authors say straightforwardly - if you are looking for extensive social elements and developed economy, play Ultima Online, and if you are primarily interested in action and fight and completing quests on your own or in the company of several other players, then Ultima X: Odyssey was created for you. The game offers gameplay, let's call it Diablo-like, but with more depth in the sky, much more extensive creation and character development, and a huge and expanded world.

Ultima fans can forget about two-dimensional graphics with 3D elements known from Ultima Online. In Ultima X: Odyssey the whole world is fully three-dimensional, and its reproduction is the responsibility of a modern graphical engine "Unreal Warfare". Thanks to the special structure of the game and the introduction of the Odyssey Adventure System, this title offers players, depending on their individual preferences, either single-playere gameplay known from the Ultima series or real multiplayer gameplay, which we know from other MMOcRPG games. We can perform quests located in public locations or in special "private areas" available only for a selected player or a group of players (multiple copies of a given area, e.g. a single tomb).

The player has complete freedom in the development of his character, he can follow the following paths of development: the path of the blade (Knight, Barbarian, Fighter), the path of magic (Mage, Sorcerer, Tinker), the path of nature (Ranger, Druid, Shepard) and the path of balance (Bard, Necromancer, Paladin), and even freely combine them, creating for example a character being a cross between Paladin and Barda. In addition, during the game he gains points, i.e. Virtues (known from the subsequent parts of the Ultima series, starting with Ultima IV), which define his status as a hero in the game world. We have eight kinds of these qualities of a true hero, i.e. humility, honesty, mercy, bravery, justice, sacrifice, honour and spirituality. The points gained can be used to gain new abilities of your character or to modify selected objects.

Ultima X: Odyssey focuses mainly on combat, so it could not miss an extensive combat system. It consists not only of simple blows that can be inflicted on the opponent, but also of complex special attacks or movements and an adjustable aggressiveness factor. In the game it is possible to create guilds of players, that is why the creators created special zones, where, like in the ancient gladiator arena, large groups of characters associated under the banners of certain guilds can duel each other.

Similar to any MMOcRPG game, there are hundreds of different items, weapons and armor, and what's more, in Ultima X: Odyssey will meet with so-called "intelligent" objects, which develop with the development of the hero.
