A free-to-play sports simulation game from the Japanese company Cygames. In Umamusume: Pretty Derby we take care of girls looking like anthropomorphic mares. They race on various tracks and it's our job to help them achieve victories. We must also learn more about their strengths, weaknesses and personalities.
The Japanese company Cygames is primarily known for the Granblue Fantasy series, as well as Shadowverse. It also has the Umamusume brand in its portfolio. The sports simulation game described here, Umamusume: Pretty Derby, debuted in 2021 and it wasn't until over four years later that it saw a global release (previously it was only available in Japan and China). The title is distributed in a free-to-play model with microtransactions.
The main characters of Umamusume: Pretty Derby are girls who are anthropomorphic mares. The protagonists have human faces and bodies, but also horse ears and tails. They also bear the names of real racehorses (mainly from Japan, but not exclusively).
Our proteges participate in fierce races on tracks for a maximum of 18 competitors. Our task during the game is to take care of them and lead them to victory. For this purpose, we need to not only establish their training plans, but also take care of their mutual relations, as well as develop a strategy for individual races. After the start signal, we can only observe how our girls perform on the track.
Each competitor has an individual personality, aspirations, and a unique set of strengths and weaknesses, which reflect their statistics, skills, and histories. This means that we have to approach each of them individually.
We can play Umamusume: Pretty Derby solo or in multiplayer mode over the Internet.
