Underrail for PC is a post-apocalyptic turn-based cRPG that draws heavily from titles like System Shock 2, Neverwinter Nights, and, especially, the first two installments in the Fallout series. This is the debut project of an independent studio Stygian Software.

Story

The game is set in the distant future, after a mysterious cataclysm that led to extinction of the greater part of the world's population and made the planet a place unfit for life. The remnants of the human race took refuge in the titular Underrail – a huge underground structure that was formerly a vast subway system, and has now become the last shelter for our dying race. Players takes on the role of one of the survivors. One day, his dull existence becomes much more interesting and dangerous, because the protagonist gets entangled in a conflict between the fractions inhabiting Underrail that compete for control over what may be the last hope of humanity.

RPG

The first paid expansion for the post-apocalyptic cRPG, released in 2015 by Stygian Software. Underrail: Expedition takes players beyond the metro network known from the original Underrail, offering a vast underground basin known as Black Sea. We are given over a hundred locations to explore – including mysterious ruins, pirate strongholds, laboratories, and islands of various sizes – which are traversed on foot or using a boat. The add-on contains new factions, enemies, abilities, and items. Underrail: Expedition increases the level cap, allowing our heroes to advance past level 25. The gameplay itself reuses the rules which governed the gameplay of the original Underrail. As a result, the game world has an open structure, and is seen from an isometric perspective, while our hero completes various main and side quests, battles opponents, upgrades his abilities, and acquires new equipment. The encounters are turn-based, often requiring well-thought strategies in order to win. Underrail: Expedition is a not a stand-alone expansion, and requires the original Underrail.
