War Mechanic

In 2022 and 2024, the Polish studio Chronospace prepared two productions in collaboration with the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, namely the Cyphers Game and the Aviators. The next project of this team was supposed to be a simulation game titled War Mechanic, allowing us to manage our own military base during the never-ending World War II. However, over time, the described project underwent a thorough transformation, becoming an open-world action adventure game.

The game presents us with an alternative vision of history, in which, after defeating the Nazis, the Allied soldiers and the Red Army turned on each other. As a result, World War II extends into the 1950s and the world takes on a new, retrofuturistic form. During the game, we take on the role of mercenary Jack Wallace, who ends up on Nordhook Island, located in the center of disputed territory.

Gameplay

In War Mechanic we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP).

Exploration of the island

The protagonist can explore Nordhook on foot or using vehicles. Adventure leads him through picturesque beaches, military installations and industrial complexes, as well as bunkers and underground mines. In each of these places, enemies such as automated mines resembling spiders, guard robots, or suicidal machines dropped from the air are waiting.

Crafting, base expansion, contracts

Wallace fights enemies primarily using firearms, led by pistols and rifles. Defeated enemies are a source of resources that can be used in the process of repairing and improving owned equipment (this also applies to vehicles) and expanding our base of operations. The protagonist also carries out various military contracts, which provide a source of money enabling further development.
