Westward Journey Online II Release Date PC
Westward Journey Online II is an MMORPG inspired by Chinese culture, and more specifically Journey to the West directed by Stephen Chow, based on a novel of the same title by Wu Cheng. The game was initially released as Westward Journey Online II, but due to serious technical problems the servers were shut down. The title was released again as Westward Journey II. The game was developed and released by The Chinese company NetEase .
Both the book and film, based on which the world of Westward Journey Online II was designed, tell the story of a Buddhist monk's Xuanzang, who goes on a pilgrimage to Central Asia and India. The aim of his expedition was to retrieve sacred religious scrolls (known as sutra). The story is inspired by Chinese culture, mythology, and folklore, as well as obvious references to Buddhist philosophy.
Westward Journey Online II is a classic representative of the MMORPG genre. The fun starts with the creation of a character (a number of classes with different skills are available). Then, observing the action from top-down perspective, players explore new locations and fight increasingly dangerous enemies.
As the game progresses, players develop the skills of their hero and gain more powerful equipment, which allows them to cope with more difficult challenges. The game also allows one to fight against other players (all servers have free PvP rules), and even to enter naval battles.
In Westward Journey Online II one can only play with others - the basis of the game is an online multiplayer mode, prepared with a large number of players in mind.
Westward Journey Online II offers decent-quality 3D visuals. Both the game environment and character models exhibit a reasonable level of detail. However, the production uses an original artistic style, reminiscent of the majority of Asian MMORPGs.
