Wizardry Variants Daphne is a classic dungeon crawler belonging to the series that started back in 1981. The game is distributed in a free-to-play model with microtransactions. It uses the so-called gacha mechanics, and was developed by the Japanese studio Drecom.
In Wizardry Variants Daphne we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP).
The gameplay does not deviate too much from what we are used to from other titles of this type, led by earlier installments of the series. We lead a team of characters into battle, which are diversified in terms of races and professions. Some of them, as well as rare equipment, can be obtained from draws.
The adventure leads us through the darkness-shrouded dungeons resembling vast labyrinths, and while exploring them, we often encounter dangers in the form of traps and various enemies.
We fight enemies in turn-based mode, trying to skillfully juggle attacks, spells and abilities of individual characters. Just like our subordinates, every enemy has their strengths and weaknesses. Exploiting them properly is the key to success here.
It's worth being cautious. Although the game has implemented a mechanism for resurrecting characters after death, in certain cases this process may fail, leading to the total loss of a given companion.
Such a loss can be painful, as individual characters not only develop their skills, but also befriend us over the course of subsequent conversations.
Wizardry Variants Daphne takes us to a fantasy land, where once every thousand years the gates to the Abyss open, through which death gradually seeps in, consuming it. We embody a self-created character, who after a failed encounter with a demon and rebirth as a ghoul, decides to join an expedition aimed at finding the missing king who has the power to seal the gates of the Abyss. How their future unfolds depends on our actions and decisions.
The graphic design of Wizardry Variants Daphne was maintained in a manga style.
