Wreckreation is an "arcade" open-world racing game focusing on destruction. It was developed by Three Fields Entertainment, a studio best known for Dangerous Driving, whose founders previously co-created the Burnout series. The publisher is THQ Nordic.

Gameplay

The action takes place in MixWorld - an open map of 400 square kilometers, which features a variety of biomes and attractions prepared for exploration and frantic racing. At the same time, the world is susceptible to modification - players can affect the weather or traffic, as well as add their own objects (like ramps or moving obstacles), creating twisted routes, and then share their creations with other users. It also features empty plots that, once discovered, can be developed, such as erecting a police station to see more police cars on the roads.

You’d have hoped that after ten years trying to recapture the brilliance of Burnout, Three Fields Entertainment would be further along than this. Wreckreation is better than anything they’ve done so far, true, but it’s still very far from the kind of racing game that anyone will want to play.

NextGen Player: 8 / 10 by Paul Hunter

Wreckreation delivers the arcade racing rush I wanted. It gets you into the action quickly, lets you shape the island with simple tools, and pairs strong audio with visuals that pop in all weather.

Wreckreation is one of the most enjoyable surprises on Xbox this year — a creative, chaotic, endlessly replayable racer that puts fun above all else. It’s bold, bright, and brilliantly silly, offering a mix of arcade thrills and open-world freedom that few games even attempt. Yes, it has the occasional rough patch and a menu or two that could use streamlining, but the sheer joy of driving, crashing, and creating outweighs every minor flaw. Few games capture that feeling of “let’s see what happens” as well as this one. If you’ve ever built jumps out of Lego bricks as a kid or drawn imaginary racetracks in your notebook, Wreckreation is your grown-up version of that same creative spark — with nitrous. “A fast, funny, and fantastically free racer that captures the pure joy of driving, crashing, and creating. It’s chaos with a smile — and one of the most entertaining games on Xbox this year.”
