WWF War Zone is a sports game dedicated to wrestling, based on the World Wrestling Federation license. The title was developed by Iguana.

Mechanics

The pillar of gameplay in WWF War Zone are the brutal and spectacular duels; by pressing the appropriate combinations of geometric and directional buttons, we perform attacks and throws and use a variety of tricks. The title offers us a dozen or so real-life wrestlers (such as Bret Hart, Ken Shamrock, The Rock or Triple H) and a few hidden fighters waiting to be unlocked; each of them has not only a different entrance to the ring but also characteristic attacks. In addition, the game enables us to create our own wrestler and lead them through the career ladder.

The duels take place according to various rules - apart from the traditional Versus, in which two players take part, there are, among others, clashes of two on two (we can switch between wrestlers during the fight), Hardcore fights (in which the players can use weapons scattered around the arena) or even duels known as Tornado (in which four wrestlers fight at the same time).

Game modes

A number of game modes have been implemented in WWF War Zone. The basic one is the career, called WWF Challenge, where we choose one of the fighters and fight for subsequent titles and belts of the WWF federation, taking on other wrestlers. In addition, the devs provide us with a training mode and multiplayer options, enabling us to play in the company of up to three other players.

Technical aspects

WWF War Zone is the first game dedicated to wrestling with three-dimensional visuals. Vince McMahon's and Jim Ross's commentary and lively reactions of the audience add variety to the struggle.
