Xenoblade Chronicles X for WiiU is a spectacular jRPG, the action of which takes place in an unusual science-fiction universe. The game was developed by Japanese studio Monolith Software and Nintendo. The development team was led by Tetsuya Takahashi. He is a legendary creator who during the nineties’ worked with Squaresoft on classic jRPGs like Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, Xenogears and Chrono Trigger. After founding Monolith Software in 1999 he created the Xenosaga trilogy and then awarded Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii. The latter is the progenitor of Xenoblade Chronicles X.
The story presented in Xenoblade Chronicles X for WiiU starts in 2054. Two powerful space armadas of alien races fought their final battle on the Earth’s orbit. This almost completely destroyed Earth and forced humanity to build self-sufficient colonization ships that started a journey in search for a new home. One of the American shuffles, called White Whale, is damaged by the aliens and it crashes on planet Mira. The crew is forced to create a settlement there and they call it New Los Angeles. They begin exploration of the unknown world and they look for rescue pods with other survivors. The main protagonist is one of the survivors. He is accepted into the organization that is exploring Mira.
The gameplay of Xenoblade Chronicles X is directly inspired by previous entry in the series that was released on Wii, and by Monster Hunter series. The player explores areas of the planet while hunting the creatures that inhabit it. He also completes various quests and missions. The action is presented by using a third-person perspective. The screen of the gamepad serves as a map. During the game the player can switch between various party members. The battles are played in real time. During them the player uses regular attacks, special skills and items. At first planet Mira is traveled on foot, but later in the game the player can use transformable mechs that can be upgraded, modified and used against the enemies.
The graphics of the game are powered by engine created by the developers. This engine utilizes the whole potential of Wii U. The soundtrack was composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, who is a composer well known by anime fans. He created soundtracks to series like Gundam Unicorn, Ao no Exorcist, Kill la Kill, Guilty Crown and Attack on Titan.
Game Ratings for Xenoblade Chronicles X Video Game.
Shacknews: 9 / 10 by Ozzie Mejia
Xenoblade Chronicles X feels like a truly breathtaking effort, evidenced by how much love has gone into crafting each and every inch of its massive planet. And it's a planet that Nintendo and Monolith Soft have made worth exploring and worth learning. It's not for everyone, as the story gets off to a slow start. In fact, expect the story to last well over 40 hours. The game also doesn't waste much time with tutorials. Players aren't left entirely to the wolves, but the combat, equipment, stats, and party system is far more complex than the simplistic tutorial tips let on. It's also worth repeating that new players should expect to die a lot!
DualShockers: 9.5 / 10 by Christian H Chiok
Xenoblade Chronicles X was absolutely worth the import, despite my struggles to progress through the game due to the language barrier. Despite that and my few misgivings, I was still able to completely enjoy the rest of the content: combat, exploration, quests and Dolls, which truly speaks to the quality of the game. I'll definitely be picking up Xenoblade Chronicles X when it releases in English so I can fully experience every aspect of this title as it was meant to be enjoyed.
Nintendo Life: 9 / 10 by Thomas Whitehead
Xenoblade Chronicles X is as sprawling, diverse, complex and entrancing as we hoped. It utilises the Wii U's capabilities not only to produce a beautiful world, but shows how something as simple as a map on the GamePad screen can be invaluable. What's most impressive is the dynamism and impression of freedom in play - level caps and grinding are naturally part of the equation, yet they're managed within a structure where even small missions or Affinity quests greatly enhance the narrative and sense of place. To truly experience the story of this human colony and the vast planet Mira requires exploration and patience, and Monolith Soft has found an impressive balance in bringing its vast range of gameplay systems and mechanics together.Occasional bottlenecks are infrequent and easily overcome in the broader experience, and overall Xenoblade Chronicles X delivers a hugely impressive RPG adventure. It's an enormous accomplishment for Monolith Soft and an irresistible part of the Wii U library.
