ZERO Sievert is a 2D top-down shooter set in a post-apocalyptic version of Eastern Europe. The game features procedurally generated locations, combat for survival, crafting, and expanding your own bunker.
ZERO Sievert is a survival action game inspired by the STALKER series and the shooter Escape from Tarkov. It is the debut work of the Italian studio CABO, founded in 2020 by Luca Carbonera. The developers raised funds for the game through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.
ZERO Sievert takes us to Eastern Europe in a post-apocalyptic setting. The story depicts the struggle for survival in a world full of looters, mutated fauna and dangerous anomalies. As one of the survivors, we slowly learn the secrets of the post-nuclear disaster universe.
The work of CABO Studio is a dynamic top-down shooter with simple, pixel-art graphics. ZERO Sievert takes us into a procedurally generated world and has us wandering through the wilderness in search of resources. As we explore, we come across NPCs who are willing to exchange items, share gossip or order new tasks.
Sinister creatures and armed bandits also lurk in the forests, destroyed stores and camps we encounter. In the fight we use more than 30 types of firearms, which we customize thanks to more than 150 available modifications. The modifications include the installation of different types of scopes, barrels or magazines. A flashlight or night vision device is also essential equipment.
We use the resources accumulated during expeditions to create items, as well as expand the bunker that serves as our base camp. In this way we unlock access to rooms such as the kitchen, bedroom, gym or workshop. Their task is, for example, to accelerate the development of the character or regenerate life.

Zero Sievert might use a lot of familiar genre descriptors, such as roguelike and extraction shooter, and it might not do a whole lot different from other, similar games that came before. However, everything it does, it does just right. It rewards you enough to make the steep challenge worth putting up with. It pushes you to explore and experiment by making both goals feel achievable with the right plan and a bit of luck, and eventually, it gives you the tools to make some fantastically detailed weapon builds and take on even bigger challenges with bigger rewards on offer. It's all recognizable, sure, but when Zero Sievert is this fun, innovation doesn't really matter.
