Metacritic has released a list of the ten worst-rated games of 2023. The first place is not surprising.
The year 2023 will soon come to an end, so now is the best time for all kinds of summaries of the past twelve months. Today Metacritic published a list of this year's games that received the lowest average ratings from critics on the website.
Considered were titles released this year, having no less than seven reviews. In this way, total "crap", which practically no one knows, was not taken into account, but only the more popular and also more important productions. Since Metacritic distributes the ratings in terms of platforms on which the game was released, only the lowest-rated version of each title was taken into account.
You will probably hear about some of these worst games for the first time, as they were not highly advertised games. However, you could have had some hopes for some of these titles, such as Crime Boss: Rockay City. This first-person shooter wanted to attract movie fans with familiar faces - stars such as Chuck Norris and Michael Madsen appear. Ultimately, it turned out to be an uninteresting game with archaic mechanics.
Fans of comic books hoped for the successful debut of Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, however, this title also turned out to be a disappointment. Most reviewers admittedly praised its visual style, but the underdeveloped combat system and level design left much to be desired.
(Dis)honorable first place could not belong to any other work than The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. The studio responsible for this game, set in an extremely popular fantasy universe, is Daedalic Entertainment, which, due to its disastrous release abandoned game development altogether.
Gollum is perhaps unquestionably the worst title released this year. A not very interesting main character (for a star of a standalone game), a ton of bugs and terrible controls effectively making it impossible to play through the platforming elements - it couldn't have ended any other way.
