Colossal Order Studio will certainly not have fond memories of the release of Cities: Skylines 2. At the time of its launch, the second installment of this hit series struggled with many technical challenges and a general lack of gameplay. One of the main problems of this city builder turned out to be the economy system. It was so troublesome that players started working on fixes themselves.

Aware of the mistakes made in creating this element, the developers began to gradually fix it in updates. Although they have made significant progress in this field, the road to perfection is still very long.

The opportunity to apologize for the mentioned inconvenience was the latest entry on Steam in the Word of the Week series by Mariina Hallikainen, Colossal Order's CEO, devoted to the economy in Cities: Skylines 2.

At release, the economy did not meet the quality standard we strive for and I apologize for the frustration this has caused. In the post-release patches, we have included fixes for issues present in the economy implementation, but some still remain, and weâ??re working on resolving those thanks to your reports. The fixes will focus on the underlying system as well as how the information is presented in the game to achieve more clarity that helps you understand the economy better.

Later in her message, the developer went on to discuss in detail some elements of the game's economy that were unclear to players. Among them were secrets of import and export, profitability, monthly balance, and the loan system.

Hallikainen also added that land values and demand mechanics will change in the upcoming update (to make it easier to understand). She also explained that "Fixing major systems like the land value takes a bit more time than the usual bug fixes because these elements are connected to the other parts of the game's economy system."

So all we have left to do is arm ourselves with patience and wait for the aforementioned changes.
