Civilization 7 gears up for major 1.2.0 update. There will be a bunch of changes and new features, and many of them are thanks to player's feedback
Civilization 7 will soon receive a 1.2.0 update. Firaxis Games studio is already revealing what is coming to its strategy. Among the things that await players are a classic team mode and a One More Turn option.

Firaxis Games studio announced the release date of the next major update for Sid Meier's Civilization VII. Patch 1.2.0 is set to be released on April 22 (although this date may still change), and as previously announced, it will bring a lot of new features and improvements. The studio also doesn't hide the fact that many changes result from players' suggestions and encourages the community to engage further.
Most important updates in version 1.2.0
One of the key elements of patch 1.2.0 is the addition of 10 new resources to the game, each of which will enrich the gameplay with narrative events. At the same time, a new random resource allocation system will be introduced, which will affect the uniqueness of our sessions.
The developers will also add the Hemisphere Identity mechanic - some resources (especially Treasure Resources) will only appear on one hemisphere or continent, which is meant to encourage players to explore. Treasure Resources will now provide passive effects.
Population growth
The way the population grows will also be changed. The old growth formula (cubic) will be replaced by a new one (square), which should result in much smoother development. "The population growth now scales much more smoothly throughout the campaign, even in later ages" - we read in the developers' announcement. According to Firaxis Games, reaching a rural population level above 8 or 9 should no longer be a tedious process that stretches over hundreds of turns. These changes should most delight players who favor factions centered on food production (such as Pachacuti) - it was players' feedback that prompted these changes.
One More Turn - endless game mode
As announced, Civi 7 will also include an optional endless gameplay mode - Just One More Turn... It will allow you to continue the campaign after the end of the modern age. While it's no longer possible to acquire new victory options and age progress will be halted, you can still finish the remaining victory paths, watch cutscenes, and further experiment with your empire.
Team mode
The 1.2.0 update will also introduce the classic team mode, known from previous installments of the series. Players from the same team will share:
- map visibility;
- relations status and wars with other leaders;
- and above all: victory - if one team member wins, the whole team wins.
Nevertheless, the teams won't share technological research, cultural advancements, or heritage paths, ensuring each civilization maintains its identity. As Firaxix underlines: "This is only our first version of teams in Civ VII, so we ask all our MP fans to send feedback!"
Remaining changes and improvements
Among the other new features, we will find:
- "Fix everything" - a new option in the production window, which will allow you to repair all damaged elements of the city with one click;
- fewer natural disasters - their frequency will be reduced at lower difficulty levels;
- coastal erosion - better planning of shoreline lines on selected types of maps;
- more interface and quality of life improvements - we will learn the details along with the full update notes.
What's next?
In May, Firaxis Games intends to pause releasing new content temporarily, as the studio will concentrate on developing larger updates anticipated for June.
DLC Right to Rule - not until summer
The announced paid collection of expansions, Right to Rule (comprising 6 small DLCs), has been delayed until the summer of 2025. We will find out the contents of this package closer to the release.
