Developers Claim Xbox Series S is Too Weak

According to developers, Xbox Series S is too weak as a platform. The console's specs raise legitimate concerns among them.

Programmers are concerned about Xbox Series S.
IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Xbox Series S is much weaker than Xbox Series X.
  2. Successive developers are drawing attention to possible problems that developers will have to deal with.
  3. At the same time they note that Xbox Series S is a good addition to PlayStation 5.

Developers are approaching the specs of Xbox Series S with considerable reserve. The exceptionally low price of the upcoming next-gen console has been achieved by significant reduction of performance. The performance of the GPU (4 teraflops and 20 computing units in Series S vs. 12.5 teraflops and 52 computing units in Series X) and RAM, which has been reduced from 16 GB to 10 GB, have suffered most.

The day before yesterday we could read complaints of one of developers working at Remedy about Xbox Series S. The main engine developer from id Software, Billy Khan, just joined the group of people expressing their doubts. According to Khan, the biggest problem of Microsoft's weaker console is divided RAM. 8 GB will work with a bandwidth of 224 GB/sec, and the remaining 2 GB are much slower and offer only 56 GB/sec.

According to Khan, the way to partially bypass this problem is to drastically lower the rendering resolution of games. However, this will not help to get rid of all the difficulties caused by the specs of Xbox Series S.

However, as another employee of id Software, Dustin Land, rightly points out, Xbox Series S is still more powerful than Xbox One, which makes Microsoft's proposal a good addition if someone decides to go for PlayStation 5 and doesn't want to spend too much on a second console.

Xbox Series S and Series X consoles will be available for sale on November 10 2020. Xbox Series S will cost $299, and Series X $449. Subscription options will also be available as part of Xbox All Access, but we do not know the details of this offer at this time.
