Devs Remind of Hellblade 2 With Beautiful Behind-the-scenes Story

Ninja Theory has released a new video showing the process of creating the world we will explore in Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is one of the most important upcoming games from Microsoft. Ninja Theory, the studio responsible for it shares new information very sparingly, so we welcome with interest any material devoted to this project. The latest video is the first in a series showing behind-the-scenes of the production.

  1. The premiere episode of the series focuses on presenting the process of creating the virtual Iceland, where the story will take place. In order to faithfully reproduce the island, the devs personally went to there and obtained a ton of materials useful in the work. The developers had access to topographical data, but it turned out to be too little detailed. Therefore, drones were used to obtain much more accurate measurements.
  2. The developers' plans were somewhat thwarted by the pandemic, preventing them from traveling freely to Iceland for a while. Therefore, they enlisted the help of Reykjavik-based photographer Chris Lund. He searched for interesting locations and helped plan the drone flights, taking into account, for example, changing lighting or wind.
  3. All the data and materials obtained in this way then had to be modified accordingly, so that they reflected the island's state from the 10th century, when Senua's story is set. The developers put a lot of effort into ensuring that the game faithfully reflects the reality of this historical period. During the work, among other things, photogrammetry technology was used to take three-dimensional photos of locations and objects, which were then converted into in-game models.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is coming to PC, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. The developers are not ready to give a planned release date for now.
