We recently reported that Mike Laidlaw, the main designer of the first two installments of the Dragon Age series and the creative director of Inquisition, is developing a new action-adventure game. Today, as promised, we have gained more specifics about the inaugural project from the Yellow Brick Games studio (of which Laidlaw is a co-founder). The first trailer has been released with gameplay fragments from Eternal Strands (below).

We will embody Brynn, the fearless Weaver in the game, who aims to "recover her people's cultural home." To achieve this, she will need to confront a variety of monsters and use her magical powers in battles. In creating the mechanics of Eternal Strands, Studio Yellow Brick Games was inspired by two popular games and one well-known series (via IGN).

  1. The motif of spectacular battles with monsters is borrowed from the Monster Hunter series. You may need to find the most effective method for eliminating the enemy, as opponents vary in size and behavior.
  2. The mechanics of climbing huge monsters are undoubtedly inspired by Shadow of the Colossus. In this way, Brynn can attack the beasts in their weak spots. Moreover, the developers promise that the player can climb not only on enemies, but on any surface.
  3. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom brings a lot of interaction with the environment. For instance, in Eternal Strands, we can use ice to construct a bridge to a remote location and use fire to destroy the obstacles in our path.

Hurl burning tree trunks at enemies with telekinetic powers, snap nearby trees to block opposing fire, or channel raw telekinetic force to rip boulders from the ground -- we read in the game's description on Steam.

We don't know when Eternal Strands is going to come out. However, we know that the game will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
