For several years now, it has been known that Electronic Arts is developing new games based on the Marvel license. Although neither Iron Man nor Black Panther (the code name for this production was Project Rainier) have yet received official trailers, we have learned more details about them.

Marvel's Iron Man

According to one of the job offers posted on EA's website, the Iron Man game developed by Motive Studio will be set in an open world. As we can read:

Our Motive is to develop innovative action games set in iconic worlds where every player feels like the hero. [...] Motive Studios is looking for a Senior Technical Artist to help oversee the rendering related aspects of an open world action adventure AAA title.

There is probably no need to mention that an open world fits perfectly into a superhero title, especially one about Tony Stark. Just give the example of Marvel’s Spider-Man, in which the idea of freely moving around the city using webs worked out very well. If EA approaches the topic in the right way, flying as Iron Man could be just as satisfying as swinging around as Spider-Man.

Unfortunately, we don't know much more about the upcoming Iron Man game. Although the CEO of Motive Studio recently announced that work on the title is going well and the team has reached an "important milestone" in its development process. EA may soon be ready to release the first teaser of the game.

Marvel's Black Panther

Another game worth mentioning is one with a protagonist familiar to Marvel fans, namely Black Panther. The newly formed studio Cliffhanger Games is developing it, but we know even less about it than about the one with Iron Man. However, a new job offer from EA confirmed that it will also be an open-world game. Furthermore, locations should be vibrant and "dynamic:"

Cliffhanger Games is a newly formed Seattle Studio focusing on blockbuster action-adventure games and pioneering next-generation emergent storytelling beginning with Marvel's Black Panther. [...] Technical Designer will be instrumental in designing and populating encounters, systems, and gameplay within a dynamic and evolving open world.

EA is primarily seeking artistic and animation specialists for Iron Man, and directors and designers for Black Panther, indicating that the first game is nearing completion. Fans of the Marvel universe can only wait for the first promotional materials, which will most likely be filled with side quests and collectibles.
